Since January 1, 2008, the Institute for Fishery Ecology is one of 15 Institutes in the newly created Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries (vTI).

The  Institute for Fishery Ecology investigates and monitors the condition of aquatic  ecosystems with special regard to anthropogenic influences on fish, on fauna consumed by  fish and on invertebrates and aquatic plants, which are important for the ecosystem.


TASKS
  • To survey radioactive, inorganic and organic  contaminants in marine organisms.
  • To survey the incidence and the proximate causes of fish diseases.
  • To use and develop theoretical models for the description of  relations between the load and the effects of contaminants in fish.
  • To assess the ecological impact of  aquaculture.
