Route description
• by car: from east or west using the A20 Lübeck-Szczecin, from south using the A19 Berlin-Rostock, exit Rostock-West direction Warnemuende (B103n), after passing the Schutow junction (fly-over B105) turn right at the 2nd traffic light into Schmarler Damm, direction Fischereihafen. Behind the rail road fly-over, turn right into Marieneher Str. After passing a pedestrian bridge with the inscription "Fischereihafen" turn left into "Alter Hafen Süd". The Institute for Baltic Sea Fisheries is situated at the very end of that street.
• by plane: scheduled flights to Hamburg oder Berlin, continue with long-distance trains (see below). Rostock-Laage and Lübeck-Blankensee are connected e.g. with Munich and Stansted, respectively, by a limited number of regular flights. Use the airport bus from their arrival halls to the respective main stations. Small water planes can use the strip on the river Warnow immediately in front of the institute and berth very close.
• by train: to Rostock Hbf, interchange to S-train in direction Warnemuende, leave at Station Marienehe (4th Station, ca 10 min), another 7 mins walk - see below under "local transport".
• by ferry/vessel: regular ferry connections exist from Rostock-Überseehafen (on the other side of the river) to Gedser (4-6 times daily, ScandLines), Trelleborg (ScandLines), Hanko (Superfast) and Ventspils (ScandLines). Bus- and S-train transfer to Rostock main station. Research vessels up to 109 m LoA and 5,1 m max. draught could berth at the institute's pier (berthing #10, after prior notification).
• local transport: from hotels in Warnemünde, take the S-train in direction Rostock Hbf (main station) to Station Marienehe (10 mins). From Hotels at the main station, take the S-train in direction Warnemünde and leave at Station Marienehe (10 mins). From Hotels in the City Center or at Doberaner Platz take the tram number 1 (direction Mecklenburger Allee) or 4 (direction Rügener Str.) to Station Marienehe (12-17 mins). From there, walk in easterly direction (turn left from the S-train platform, turn right from the tram platform) over two small pedestrian bridges to the fishing harbour - see red dotted line on the map (about 7 mins walking).
